Paediatrics is the field dealing with the varied health needs of children between the age group of 0 to 18 years of life.
This field is both fascinating and challenging. Fascinating because, we deal with a world of unmasked, natural & innocent expressions of laughter, fun & play which lifts our spirit to another level!! Challenging because it deals with a group who cannot express where the pain is & what the problem is, and only expression is cry & crankiness. It is mostly the art of diagnosing as ‘May be & Could be’.
In Indian scenario, with the overcrowding patients at the paediatrician’s OPD, speed and accuracy are of equal & utmost importance to arrive at the right diagnosis, both of which come only with a firm theoretical & practical background. Here I consider myself fortunate to have attained it through my competent & excellent guides & teachers at St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore.
Considering the paediatric population of H.D. Kote Taluk which is around 1.1lakh, below 18 yrs of age, & 30,000 children between 0-6 years ( Census 2011), with only 2 paediatricians including me, to cater to their health needs, I realize the enormity of the need and the sense of responsibility placed on me to respond adequately to reduce the burden of mortality & morbidity especially among under fives, and even more specially among infants and newborns. At this juncture I deem it my privilege to work hand in hand with the most efficient, available & vigilant obstetrician- Dr. Sr. Hilda, to find high risk mothers & foetuses at the right time & do the needful to safeguard their life, thus contribute at the reduction of infant & maternal mortality rate.
The services offered in paediatrics are- Routine Newborn care & follow up with vaccination, High Risk Newborn care including prematurity, low birth weight, respiratory distress, sepsis, hypoglycaemia and neonatal jaundice. Outpatient services are available on daily basis between 9am to 6pm. Semi ICU for the high risk children & adults is available.
We strive hard to give our best to the children and adults who come seeking health, so that our purpose of helping the remote & financially backward village population may be fulfilled, for their good & for the glory of God.
