Staff Development Program on Simulation-Based Education
Srs. Aruna Kumari and . Smitha D Souza along with colleagues from various regions of India, participated in the Training of Trainers (TOT) on Simulation-Based Education from June 9 to June 14, 2025. Organized by the Indian Nursing Council in collaboration with SGT University’s National Reference Simulation Centre (NRSC)—a cutting-edge facility established in partnership with Jhpiego and Laerdal—the program aimed to enhance the skills of nursing educators in simulation-based learning.
The event, held in Gurugram, welcomed two nominees from each participating institute. The Director of NRSC, Ms. Anu Grover, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests and participants. A total of 33 faculty members from both government and private nursing institutes across Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, New Delhi, Karnataka, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and West Bengal attended the training.
Training Structure and Activities
The six-day program commenced with a pre-test, followed by presentations and interactive sessions covering various key topics, including:
- The Circle of Learning
- Adult Learning Techniques
- Characteristics of an Effective Trainer
- Utilization of Checklists and OSCE
- Decision-Making in Nursing Education
- Introduction to Simulation-Based Education
- Video-Based Simulation & Case Studies(including clips from Grey’s Anatomy)
- Concept, Scope, and Assumptions in Nursing Education
Participants engaged in hands-on practice, applying checklists, OSCE methods, case studies, and advocacy inquiry techniques in structured group activities. From Day 4 to Day 6, attendees conducted independent simulation sessions under the guidance of NRSC trainers, fostering practical application of the concepts learned.
Program Conclusion and Feedback
The training concluded with a Valedictory Session, where participants reflected on their experience. Feedback collected during the session indicated high levels of appreciation for the program, with attendees expressing confidence in implementing simulation methodologies in their respective institutes.
This Training of Trainers (TOT) program has empowered nursing educators with advanced techniques in simulation-based teaching, contributing to the overall enhancement of nursing education across India. Certificates and copy of materials in pen drive were distributed to the participants by Director, Ms. Anu Grover and NRSC Team.
