Lamp lighting ceremony of 4th batch of B.Sc. (N) was held on 09/02/2024 at 4pm in the hospital auditorium of SMCHC. The event marked the initiation of nursing students into the profession, with a tribute paid to Florence Nightingale. The students lit lamps and took the Florence Nightingale pledge, promising to uphold ethical standards. The dignitaries on the dais were Rev. Sr. Lily Fernandes (The Provincial) Superior and President of SMCHC trust), Rev. Sr. Mary Mendonca (Director of SMCHC & SMCON), Rev. Sr. Philomena Nimmy (Superior of Sanjeevini Convent). Administrator Rev. Sr. Aruna Kumari SMCON, Principal Prof. Naveen Rasquinha, Vice Principal Prof. Sandeep Kumar SMCON.
The dignitaries off the dais were Rev. Sr. Santhan Rodrigues (Administrator of SMCHC), Rev. Sr. Mary Fernandes (Nursing Superintendent). The Medical Superintendent of SMCHC Dr. Sr. Amitha Lobo (Gen Surgeon).
Miss .Tona Maria and Miss. Anugraha the master of ceremony of the day. The programme began with a prayer dance by 3rd batch followed by welcome speech by Miss. Sharmila the Nursing Tutor.
The programme was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp by all the dignitaries then Prof. Sandeep Kumar addressed the gathering by sharing the significance of lamp lighting in nursing profession thereafter dignitaries moved on to the portrait of Florence Nightingale to offer flowers as a tribute of love and respect to Florence Nightingale lady with lamp.
The glimpse of life of Florence Nightingale was enacted by 3rd batch of B.Sc. (N) students. Soon after the enactment, students got their lamp lighted from Rev. Sr. Mary Mendonca (Director) and Rev. Sr. Mary Fernandes (Nursing Superintendent), 39 students of 4th Batch of B.Sc. (N) proposed their oath before the assembly under the guidance of Principal Prof. Naveen Rasquinha.
This was followed by prize distribution under the leadership of Mrs. Dhanavathy, Rev. Sr. Lily Fernandes, Rev. Sr. Philomena Nimmy, Rev. Sr. Mary Mendonca, Principal Prof. Naveen Rasquinha, Administrator Rev. Sr. Aruna Kumari, distributed prize to the students who won in various competitions conducted within the college. Later Rev. Sr. Lily Fernandes proposed presidential Address were she encouraged students to light the lamp of service with love, dedication, Compassion and commitment also she delivered an inspiring speech on the crucial role of nurses in patient care. Then Rev. Sr. Mary Mendonca, Principal Prof. Naveen Rasquinha .Rev. Sr. Aruna Kumari Felicitated Rev. Sr. Lily Fernandes for her unwavering interest and care towards the developments works of the hospital and college of Nursing. The ceremony ended with congratulations to the students and a vote of thanks to attendees. It was indeed beautiful Ceremony.
