Eye Camp at SMCHC
An Eye Camp was organized on 20th February 2026 at St. Mary’s Community Health Centre (SMCHC) in collaboration with Aravinda Eye Hospital, Coimbatore. The camp witnessed an overwhelming response with 225 patients registered in the OPD. Of these, 63 patients underwent IOL surgeries.
Specialty consultations were provided in areas such as Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, and Paediatrics, with referrals made to nearby hospitals and SMCHC for follow-up care after one week. The camp also addressed Refractive Errors (65 cases), offered General Practitioner advice to 49 patients, and facilitated 39 orders for corrective glasses.
On the occasion, Sr. Dr. Jyothi Fernandes, Paediatrician of SMCHC, delivered an insightful talk highlighting the importance of eye health in daily life. She emphasized the need for regular eye check-ups, particularly after the age of 40 years, to prevent avoidable vision problems.
The camp was graced by the presence of the P.R.O., doctors and staff from Aravinda Eye Hospital, Sr. Mary Mendonca, Director of SMCHC, Sr. Nimmy, Superior of Sanjeevini Convent, along with the correspondent, other doctors, staff, and students. Their collective participation ensured the smooth conduct and success of the program.
The Eye Camp at SMCHC stood as a testament to the institution’s commitment to community health, bringing specialized care closer to the people and fostering awareness about the significance of timely eye examinations.
